The vibrational frequency of Ancestors
Claiming forward the throne.
Then comes Emergence,
The breaking of the seed—
Purpose carved from stardust.
It is our need to be.
We are the Young, Gifted and Black,
Children of Nina’s fire,
Carrying Aretha’s spirit
Higher and ever higher.
KIZA BlackLit is a Natural Mystic blowing,
Just like Marley said—
A rhythmic resolution
Where our soul is finally fed.
In this circle within the cosmos,
The light is forever traveling through—
Reimagining a universe
That looks exactly like you.
Welcome to the universe of Darkness and Light
A Creative Cosmology of expansion.
This is more than a column. It is collaborative movement unfolding, a place where individuals gifted with the ability to invent and produce original ideas do not just exist, they emerge as a creative force together.
Here, writers, artists, designers and visionaries gather to study, develop and design literary writings, productions and experiences powerful enough to manifest a new reality. We call this reality The Age of Return.
DEFINING THE MYSTERY: WHAT IS "KIZA?"
In Kiswahili, the word kiza translates as "darkness," while the word kisa translates as “story.” From the darkness comes our story. In our cosmology, we bring the concepts together. KIZA represents a sacred place of mystery that precedes Creative Action. It is the fertile void of Being and Knowing, the place where our Ancestor Creatives abode before time.
It is the space where they traveled to remember who they were during the time of the Maafa (Kiswahili for “great tragedy” or “great disaster”) when the world told them what to be.
Within this fertile void there exists Resonance—energy that precedes sound and light, guiding us to navigate darkness in all its forms, to arrive at a profound sense of illumination and clarity of purpose.
Our creativity thus emerges from this clarity.
RESONANCE: THE SCIENCE OF VIBRATION
What does it mean to vibe? In physics, Resonance is the prolongation and amplification of sound and vibration. In culture, it is the signal that Emergence is occurring. True resonance happens when an “external” force matches our natural frequency, evoking a response that is deeply true, emotionally powerful and culturally expressive.
THE ANCESTRAL ECHO
Think of the 1960s, when the voices of Nina Simone and Aretha Franklin rang out “Young, Gifted and Black,” and John Coltrane’s soprano saxophone prayed a “Love Supreme.” They didn't just sing or play; they resonated. For a generation, those creatives provided frequencies that allowed a new Black consciousness to emerge.

This is the moment when imaginative thought becomes unified motion, the creator becomes a visionary and a story is told.
